The normal teaching program is stopped for an entire week for all semesters except the final semester and replaced by a series of workshops and a lecture program. Professors and lecturers from our international partner schools are invited to offer workshops on a favourite design subject of theirs to our students.

The lecture program is organized all over the week. Topics about and related to Design are relevant.

Univ. Prof. Dr. Klaus Miesenberger

Universität Linz

"Design for All: A more Inclusive Society by Design"

Prof. Dr. Miesenberger´s background is computer science and economics. In 2001 he got his professorship in Human-Computer Interaction for people with disabilities and is now vice head of the institute "Integriert studieren" at the University of Linz, Austria being responsible for R&D, teaching and running a service centre for students with disabilities.

Alexander Baumgardt

MetaDesign AG Berlin

"Towards a practice of interactive branding"

Alexander Baumgardt is Director for Interactive Branding at the MetaDesign AG in Berlin. His work is driven by analytical and processual thinking, believing thta design is foremost a discipline of thinking, he applies design approaches to almost everything - from consulting to management and form giving itself. Prior to MetaDesign he worked as a design consultant and manager specialized on design strategy and user experience design. 

Prof. Dieter Raffler

Hochschule Anhalt Dessau (FH)

"Biomorphologie"

Prof. Dieter Raffler was professor at the Hochschule Anhalt in Dessau teaching 3-dimensional design, morphology and bionics. He has graduated as one of the last students from the hfg ulm and worked for clients like Gardena.  

Dr. Gesche Joost

Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, Berlin

"Research rocks! Designforschung als Innovationstreiber"

 Dr. Gesche Joost has studied design at KISD in Cologne and did her PhD in rhetoric at the University of Tübingen. Since 2005 she is leading the Design Research Lab at the Deutsche Telekom Laboratories. She tought at several universities and is chairperson of the DGTF (German design theory and research association). 

Univ. Prof. Dipl. Ing. Matthias Karch

TU Braunschweig

"Modelle der Raumzeit - Zeitbasierte Formfindungsprozesse

in Architektur und Szenografie"

Prof. Matthias Karch is an architect and stage designer. He worked under other at the Burgtheater in Vienna and the Staatstheater Kassel. He realized over 60 projects in German, Swiss and Austrian cities. In 1995, he founded his architecture office OZA in Berlin. From 1995 until 2003 he was professor at the Hochschule Anhalt and since 2003 at the Technical University in Braunschweig leading EMD (Institute of conceptual design, media and representation).

 

Prof. Michael Renner

Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel

"Visual Communication and Iconic Research"

Prof. Michael Renner experienced the digital revolution first-hand when he went to work for Apple computer Inc. Research and reflection upon the digital media and the meaning of images in this context is the central theme of Renner´s practical and theoretical design activities. Since 1990 he is teaching in the Visual Communication dept. at HGK Basel with emphasis on information, interaction and corporate design. In 1999 he was named chairman of the Visual Communication Institute/The Basel School of Design. Since 2005 he is member of "eikones", the Swiss National center of Competence in Iconic Criticism.

 

 Prof. Dr. Joachim Krausse

Hochschule Anhalt

"modelling Globality - A Reminder of R. Buckminster Fuller´s Comprehensive Anticipatory Design Science" I

Prof. Joachim Krausse has studied philosophy, literature and communication studies. In the center of his studies, publications and TV documentations are technical culture and the meaning of construction as representation of intelligence. His work about the American architect, designer and inventor R. Buckminster Fuller has been published as exhibition and book „Your Private Sky: R. Buckminster Fuller – The Art of Design Science“, 1999-2002. Since 1991 Krausse is publishing and contributing to the architecture magazine Arch+. Teaching since 1970 at different universities in Berlin, Schwaebisch Gmuend and Dessau, he was leading the international masters´ program at Hochschule Anhalt in Dessau from 2002 until 2008.
